INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP “DEMOCRATIC EDUCATION: THE PENDING INNOVATION”

17.30h Institutional welcome
18.00h International interactive table “What can we learn from the approaches to democratic education of Northern Europe and the Mediterranean?”
● The proposal of the European Wergeland Center (Norway): “Tool for Democratic School Development” Established by the Council of Europe and Norway in 2008, the EWC is a resource center on
education for intercultural understanding, human rights and democratic citizenship that aims to strengthen the capacity of individuals, educational institutions and educational systems to build and sustain a culture of democracy and human rights.
● The experience of NYT Europa (Denmark) and Ecomón (Catalonia): a meeting of young people from all over Europe to influence the policies of the European Commission on
sustainability and democracy. NYT Europa is an organization that aims to promote civic engagement on a Danish and European
level by strengthening public participation and knowledge through debates, talks, workshops, conferences and educational programs.
● The perspective of ANTIGONE, information and documentation centre on Racism, Ecology, Peace and Non-Violence (Greece): democracy, from the concept to the process, from the point of view of the educational community. Through actions based on solidarity and active participation, the Greek organization ANTIGONE
aims to inform and raise awareness on issues related to non-discrimination, human rights, ecology, non-violence and interculturality, by motivating the redefinition of social values and
priorities towards a social, ecological and solidary direction.
Guided conversation between the three experiences about the obstacles and opportunities of rethinking education in terms of democratic culture and for human rights, with interaction with
the public.

10.00h Dialogic workshops based on 4 real cases of complex situations in an educational environment “If democratic education is determinant for the transformation of education, for educational success, and for inclusion, what are its key elements?”

● Ermessenda del Casc Antic Scout Group (Barcelona)
